Water filled balls make interesting weight training tools

Yesterday we worked with some new equipment - Aqua Bags - as it sounds, we have a range of water filled plastic balls and "slugs n bullets" (like bolster cushions with handles) to test not just the muscles, but the core as well.

How?

Well first and foremost they can have differing amounts of water inside them. We've bought a number of different coloured ones so we know what weight is in each and the first one starts at just 10 kilos.

But perhaps what makes these water balls interesting is that - water moves and you have to tighten not only the muscles you are planning on using, but you HAVE to use the core as well. So if you have had trouble working the core to enable you to lose the belly fat, these water balls can really make a big difference.

Tightening the core means you hold your form whilst completing the exercise sets, and not lose grip on the ball. The slugs n bullets are easier simply because they have proper hand holds.

I know it sounds strange, but the workout is intense and of course varied. As your muscles get tired, you have to constantly re-grip, and if you are stronger one sided then the water sloshes to the weaker side making it heavier and making the weaker arm work harder.

It is a very interesting way to get a multiple muscle workout happening AND of course keep your heart-rate elevated to help burn any stubborn fat you may have lurking - so when it comes to exercise on health - ask your trainer (assuming you don't work with us) to give you new variations and / or equipment.

Never be afraid to try something new to vary your exercise routine. As your muscles get used to one set of exercises really quickly, new equipment can give you a boost to your health by varying the routines and certainly the techniques needed to complete the desired number of reps.
