Our perceptions about our health may be wrong

A new study published by the National Heart Foundation of Australia has found more Australians than ever are overweight or obese (based on the BMI Calculation). According to the report which surveyed 12,500 aged between 30 and 65 found that nearly 10 million Australian adults are now overweight or obese, with the Australian Bureau of Statistics finding that 25 percent are obese and another 37 percent of people overweight. What was interesting to me, wasn't the scary statistics per se, rather our perceptions of what constituted being "healthy" and how much exercise we needed to do. It is no surprise that we should incorporate Exercise as part of our healthy lifestyle program, but perhaps we also need to have another look at our exercise and health in more general terms.

For example:
  • Do we get out of breath climbing stairs
  • How many units of alcohol we drink a week
  • How many cigarettes we smoke
  • If we had to count up our calorie intake for the day - how many excess calories are we consuming and we don't know?
As always, something to think about
