Incidental exercise can help keep your body toned
I am a great believer in incidental exercise as a way to boost the amount of exercise you can fit into a single day.
Most people don't exercise enough - they eat far too much than their bodies can use as energy and we see weight creep on the scale. These are the people who would sooner drive to the shops rather than walk. They may have a sedentary job and add several hours of television viewing to the daily routine and consequently - are a lot larger than they should be.
Now I am also aware not everyone exercises for a living, so how do you find balance?
This is where incidental exercise can play a big part in keeping your weight down and your body toned and healthy.
Incidental exercise includes everything you do during the day / night that you wouldn't class as 'exercise':
- Climbing the stairs
- Cleaning the car
- Washing the floors
- Painting the house
- Gardening
- Ironing
- Making the beds
- Folding washing
- Moving Furniture around
But if you do want to watch TV then try moving the stationery bike in front of it, at least get some benefit from watching the program.

I agree entirely with this post - incidental exercise is a fantastic way of keeping the body moving, the muscles toning and a great way to burn off excess calories (assuming you've eaten too much of course). I think it takes a deficit of something like 3,500 calories to get rid of a kilo of fat and that's very hard to do based on cutting back alone. So incidental exercise can really make a difference to weight and size loss.
