Find more training time: Break it down

How can you find more training time? It seems like our lives are moving at an ever increasing pace, yet we are still expected to find 30 every day! How on earth can we find 30 when we don't know where our time goes?

First things first

Keep a time log of when you train. You can jot it onto a bit of paper or use a spreadsheet program. Just mark down what you did and when. It can be a bit of an eye opener when you see it written down just how little true exercise we do each week.

Then it is time to take an honest look at your daily activities.

  • What time do you get up?
  • How long do you have for lunch?
  • How much time do you spend sitting down in front of the computer / television each day
  • How much sleep do you get each night?
  • Where can you incorporate extra activity?
  • Can you walk / ride to work?
  • Does your office building have stairs as well as an elevator / lift? Why not use them :-)
  • If you have an hour for your lunch break - why not change into sports gear and runners and go for a power walk before lunch. Keep any ad-hoc shopping / bill paying you need to do to just one day a week and probably save yourself hundreds of dollars in the process.
  • Can you incorporate an evening walk into your routine? Take the kids, take the spouse, take the dog, but best of all - take yourself :-)

Breaking down your day into distinct time slots can really work if you feel you are pushed for time.
